Indigenous Blanket Weavers in Chiapas
Earlier this week I was able to visit a village in Chiapas where my friends were having blankets made. I knew the process was labor intensive but I had no idea of the full extent. Wool is carded, dyed, handmade into thread and finally weaved into blankets on a waist loom. Even though we showed up unannounced we were shown the hospitality of invited guests. These people may be very poor but they have a great sense of community, good humor and remarkably positive outlooks.
